Gifted three-year-old River Rubicon showed his class with a smart 950-metre trial win at Lark Hill this morning.

Lining up in Heat 8 of the day with stable jockey Shaun McGruddy on board, River Rubicon began well and sat third in transit, and after balancing up in the straight let down stylishly to comfortably overhaul quality sprinter Great Again (watch replay below).

A winner at four of his seven starts, the son of Rubick is one of SJ Wolfe Racing’s most promising horses and is a chance to kick off his campaign at Belmont next Saturday July 23.

River Rubicon was one of three triallers at today’s session, with fellow three-year-olds Currimundi and Divine Mercy both acquitting themselves well also.

Currimundi, a younger half-brother to open-class stablemate The Spruiker, showed potential when last in work and appeared in good order when winning Heat 11 with McGruddy once again on board.

While Divine Mercy, a Mt Barker winner last December and multiple Albany placegetter, led them up in Heat 10 for Tash Faithfull and boxed on well in the straight to finish second behind the Belmont winning Probity.
