Stable star Red Can Man warmed up for a Melbourne spring campaign with a comfortable win in Heat 3 (950m) at this morning’s Lark Hill barrier trials.

Rested after a mighty second placing in the Belmont Sprint on May 28, Red Can Man just needs to secure a slot on a Calthorpe Horse Transport plane and he’ll be heading east once again.

The six-year-old campaigned with David Brideoake in Melbourne this time last year, racing six times for a win and two minor placings, with the victory coming in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on August 14.

Returning home for the Perth Racing Carnival late 2021, Red Can Man was a touch jaded and wasn’t able to produce his very best form, however, he showed he was right back on top of his game in 2022 with second placings behind WA’s best sprinter Elite Street in both the Northam Stakes and Roma Cup, before being gunned down late by God Has Spoken in the Belmont Sprint.

The stable is expecting a Perth to Melbourne flight to be available on Wednesday August 17, giving Red Can Man time to settle in to his Flemington surroundings and be ready to attack a Group 3 $200,000 The Heath (1100m) first up at Caulfield on Saturday August 27.
