Group winning racemare Watch Me Dance is heading to Victoria after smashing the all time Western Australian auction record price when selling at the Perth Winter Sale today.
Victorian trainer Lloyd Kennewell went to $600,000 to secure the outstanding four-year-old who was presented by Western Breeders Alliance, as agent for Commercial Bloodstock.
The price easily surpassed the previous state record of $420,000 for the broodmare prospect Ellicazoom at the corresponding sale four years ago.
The daughter of I’m All the Talk, who was a $34,000 Perth Yearling Sale buy for Noel Carter’s Commercial Bloodstock, earned a tick under $900,000 during her racing career with trainer Steve Wolfe.
Such was the class of Watch Me Dance she was crowned the Champion Two-Year-Old and Three-Year-Old of her year in Western Australia.
She was raced during her career by an all female ownership group, being an early Magic Millions WA Racing Women aspirant.
“She’s got a great race pedigree and on the market she looked pretty good value,” Kennewell said of Watch Me Dance. “In the east she could have made more.”
“She will race on. I will train her in Victoria – we have just booked her to fly on Tuesday.”
Kennewell said Watch Me Dance will be given a break before future race plans are drawn up.
“The plan is to race her for 12 months before heading to stud. I bought her for a good client and we’re excited to get her.”
“I liked her as a type as well – she’s a nice, sweet filly. She’s had a bit of recent racing so she will have a break when she gets over east.”
